Case History
On this page we will keep a history of ongoing optimization projects of our clients, and of our own endeavors for BuyShopPurchase.com and our affiliate marketing business. This will demonstrate the attention needed to optimize web sites for targeted keyword phrases. For the time being, we are focusing on optimizing these pages for google, the mother of all search engines.
Target keyword phrase(s): "Washington DC Parkinson's Disease Attorneys"
URL: Washington DC Parkinson's Disease Attorneys
Date: 10.30.05
Case History: I chose this keyword phrase because analysis shows that it is a very non-competitive term that gets searched with some frequency. The page finally was indexed by google and debuted at #1.
Target keyword phrase(s): "washington dc web site design"
URL: Washington DC Web Site Design, Optimalwebsite.com
Date: 10.21.05
Case History: "Washington DC Web Site Design" is a keyword phrase that OptimalWebsite.com is interested in to attract more prospects. After all, we are located about 30 seconds from the Washington, DC line, and we care about local web development needs. To not compete for the phrase "Washington DC Web Site Design" would be foolishly short-sighted. After doing some simple research with Overture's keyword tool, I noticed "washington dc web site design" was searched 12384 times in September 2005. I changed the web site template to reflect the fact that we focus on "washington dc web site design", and I created a new page to inform visitors that we value working with prospects in Washington DC and the vicinity. The home page has had the text changed as well to reflect "washington dc web site design".

Update: Google updated it's cache of the home page, optimalwebsite.com. This is not the intended URL, and the target url has not been indexed. I may actually change the target url to the home page, or at least include the home page because I added back links from client web sites Ivy's Place Indonesian-Thai Restaurant, Metroffice.com, and ButterflyWorkshops.com. The back links point to the home page and not to the "washington dc web site design" page. What is interesting here is that when you run a search for "washington dc web site design", ButterfllyWorkshops.com shows up in 59th place, Metroffice.com comes in 68th place, while optimalwebsite.com makes it's debut in 76th place. Hopefully google will get this figured out as time goes on because there is less "value" for someone searching for that keyword phrase and getting a site that offers a link to the "web site design" page. One would think that it would be preferable for the actual web site to be listed ahead of the linked pages. Why make someone take two steps to get to a page instead of one? But again, it is very early, so hopefully this will probably be resolved.

Update: Overnight, google made the shift that put optimalwebsite.com ahead of the other web sites that were linking to me. The jump was nice, going from 76th place to 58th place. I added this web site's home page as a target URL for optimization.
Date: 10.30.05
Update: The back link from Metroffice.com is sitting in position #26, ahead of the target pages. The best ranking for the target page is position #40. It is pretty frustrating that the target page has more relevant content versus a page which only offers a link, and that's it! The other target page is in 63rd place. This is the page I want to rank competitively. I will update you with what I am doing to upgrade that page. My first step will be to work on getting incoming links. I will also add more content as well.
Target keyword phrase(s): "green tea articles"
URL: Green Tea Articles
Date: 10.14.05
Case History: This page was created at the start of October. We compiled a list of free articles from GoArticles.com. We plan to promote green tea supplements to visitors reading these articles. The page is in a very raw form, but it will be improved upon once we climb the rankings in google. This is how the web page looked when google first crawled the page. The first ranking we received for "green tea articles" was on page 6, in 67th place. We finally showed up about a week into October. The first page we created was intentionally un-optimized. I checked on October 12 and my site disappeared from google. However, the site showed back up today on page 4 in the 44th place. That was a nice jump, and the page is still not optimized. It is still cached as the 'old' version. The Green Tea Article page has now been optimized for the next google crawl. As you can see, the new version and old version are very different in regards to the amount of body text and formatting. There are also less articles. The new version is not the best optimization that can be done, but a huge step. Once we get a new ranking, we will employ additional strategies.

Update: Well, it appears that the page is in the "google sandbox". What is the "google sandbox"? Well, it is not proven, but supposedly google keeps new sites from competing with top spots until a certain time period has passed. Important -- Read more about the google sandbox. As of today, the green tea article page has vanished from google. Even though I am focusing on google rankings, today, the site ranks on the 5th page, 42nd place on yahoo search. Yahoo still has the first, un optimized page.

Update: "Green Tea Articles" -- Interesting twist here! Google has listed this page in the rankings instead of the target page. The target page is still in the mystery google sandbox. This page shows up on the 2nd page in 13th place for "green tea articles". The reason why this web site is being ranked instead of the other page probably has to do with the fact that this web page is out of the google sandbox, and free to compete with other web pages. When the target page gets out of the sandbox, it will be interesting to see how it competes with this page.
